My Beef With Black Cinema
During the early part of 2018 myself and some family went to see Marvel's Black Panther. As we all know the movie was incredible in more ways than one. Everybody from the protagonist, antagonist, and everyone in between had their shining moments. Somehow, somewhere along the year movies such as Superfly and Pimp hit the scene.
Now I don't have a problem with black actors being hired, but at what cost? From my point of view that's the problem with black cinema; it doesn't follow through. This form of irony gets me pissed. Maybe there is a reason why I don't go to the movies too much?
Being a Black artist this travesty is troublesome. The moment a person of color brings fourth something of difference it's seen as strange fruit that needs to be left to hang dry. I don't ask for the average Joe to boycott, but for the true artist out there: Organize, Organize, Organize. It's all about seeing beyond into the next millennium.
To all the readers out there please hear this out thoroughly and constructively. Our elders did not break down barriers so we ourselves could push back the clock. I may sound angry but I do see some great things on TV Land that are lenient to my amusement. We as black people have crossed many finish-lines in Hollywood, but we have more miles to run.
